Simple as that.
Flagpole, immorality is the experience of the summer.
Nineteen-year-old Dylan Nemerov has spent his entire life gleefully pursuing the American dream, consuming the culture from regurgitated sitcoms and Hollywood. His successful application for the 'Sleepaway America' program meant he could escape his English mediocrity and 2nd year university education, embracing nine weeks of adventure in the United States. Leaving his girlfriend, Laura, back in England. He naively embarks on his travels to the co-ed, Red Oak and Silver Wood Camp in the rolling hills of New York State.
Promises of forming lifelong friendships like those in the glossy marketing brochures. The pesky young adults with white toothed smiles pose blithely with the Manhattan skyline, promising a future
unfulfilled.
While there, consumed by neurosis and alienation, he meets Hazel Valentine, sparking a relationship that will prove more valuable than he will ever know.
For Dylan, armed only with dalliance, debauchery, and the sounds of Hot Hot Heat. Red Oak and Silver Wood camp would practically destroy him.
Bugle. Flagpole. Allegiance. Activity. Repeat.
He’ll keep reminding himself:
‘It’ll be worth it.’
